This faithfully restored 18th-century Dutch farm complex is situated in the peaceful countryside in South Limburg. Auberge de Smockelaer benefits from free Wi-Fi, a Burgundian kitchen and a garden terrace. A very pleasant spot, but check facilities in advance!

A very pleasant auberge in a lovely location, with good views and facilities. We stayed in the barn conversion, where the bathrooms are shared, but we knew this in advance and it was OK. The breakfasts were fine (though the only cooked items were hard boiled eggs). Staff were friendly and obliging.
There is NO swimming pool., despite the fact that one is shown in the pictures attached to this property. I had especially chosen it for this reason so was very disappointed. They said that the pool was at another property of theirs and that the fault was with Booking.com. We were told that we could put out food in the fridge. We put about £30 worth of groceries in it, but when we came back in the evening the fridge was empty and we were told it had been thrown away by the cleaners. This struck me as really strange, as it was obviously fresh food and there were several bottles of beer and other drinks in there. In mitigation they gave us a hamper of drinks and crisps and a free main course in the restaurant. Lastly, when I went to pay, they wouldn't accept Visa or Mastercard, which I thought really odd, as they must be the two most common types of card. I was told "this is just a small village in Holland." I have never had either of these cards rejected anywhere in the world! I had to drive to the next village to get cash.

Ontbijt was heerlijk en de bedden waren goed.
Op de foto's leek het of dit hotel een zwembad had maar dit is alleen als je een huis huurt voor 20 personen. Dat viel dus tegen voor de kinderen.

Hotel staat op een mooie plek in het Zuid-Limburgse landschap. Personeel is aardig en behulpzaam.
Op basis van foto's bij booking.com dachten we dat er een zwembad bij zat.

Ontbijt erg lekker en de rust die er was. heerlijk uitrusten na een motordag. Motoren stonden voor de slaapkamer :)geparkeerd.
Het bed was mij iets te zacht.

Voor de natuurlijke ventilatie kan alleen een deur open welke op de binnenplaats uitkomt. De deur kan dan niet op slot.

Het was onduidelijk welke lokatie we uiteindelijk geboekt hadden. Wij dachten dat er een zwembad was, dit bleek op een andere lokatie te zijn.

Hadden geboekt bij de smockelaer maar werden ondergebracht bij la Mairie, 3 km verderop. Aldaar waren we op onszelf angewezen. Geen pesoneel en geen enkele faciliteit.

Absolute aanrader voor rust liefhebbers en wandelaars

Fantastische ontvangst, Keurige kamer op mooie locatie. Vriendelijk personeel. Prima ontbijt. alles in stijl en erg goed afgewerkt. Rustige kamer. We overnachten regelmatig in hotels, de ervaring met deze herberg hoort bij de top!
Er waren geen tegenvallers waar deze herberg iets aan kon veranderen (behoorlijk nat geregend :-))
