About Hamakua House and Camping Cabanas

Featuring panoramic ocean views, Hamakua House and Camping Cabanas is located in Pepeekeo. Free WiFi access is available. Akaka Falls State Park is 10 minutes’ drive from the guest house. Views and access to a shared bathroom is provided in each room at Hamakua House and Camping Cabanas. Hammocks for sleeping is offered in the cabanas offered. Bed linens are included. At Hamakua House and Camping Cabanas a garden and a shared kitchen are available. Other facilities offered at the property include a shared lounge. The property offers free parking. Hilo Airport is 25 minutes’ drive from the guest house. Waiakea Forest Reserve is 33.9 km from Hamakua House.

The property has listed driving directions for you below: Step 1: Drive to Honomu, HI (about 11.5 miles North of Hilo on Route 19 Hawaii Belt Road). When you are getting close you will see signs to turn for Honomu (Route 220) and for Akaka Falls. Follow those signs into town. Step 2: At the top of the hill follow Route 220 as it curves sharply to the left. Next, drive through the little historic town and continue going straight. Do not turn right to go up the hill towards Akaka Falls. When you reach the end of the town (after the Honomu Gym and churches) the road will narrow down to a one lane road, and wind through a ravine. Shortly after the ravine the pavement will end and the road will be gravel going forward. Step 3: Our place is about a 3/4 mile past the ravine, 28-1435 Old Mamalahoa Hwy., 96783. We have a green lit placard with "Hamakua House" and the address down by the road. Turn right into our driveway. It is steep at first, but it levels out at the top. You will see the designated parking on your right. Please enter from the back porch as there is no public entrance on the front of the house. Note: The public gravel road is easily passable in any vehicle (cars, vans, etc...) but you may have to go slow if your vehicle has low clearance. Please note that GPS does not work very well here. Some people have had some luck with Google Maps, but navigation using an iPhone (Apple Maps) has proven impossible. We recommend that you bring a copy of these directions with you. Guests are required to show a photo identification and credit card upon check-in. Please note that all Special Requests are subject to availability and additional charges may apply. Een luxe back to basic

4.40/5.0

Great value for a real hawaian experience

4.40/5.0
Very open and informal environment. Warm welcome and care. The house is in the middle of the forest. An amazing balcony in the living room offers a stunning sea view. Great bathroom with 100% privacy but no windows: True hawaian experience. Ask for room 2...it has sea view. Breakfast is offered in the form of vouchers to be used in 2 different cafes.
Very difficult to say...Rooms are very hot during the day...a mid day nap is basically impossible in summer. In the night is good, even in the hottest days. The room 1 could be a little refurbished.

A slice of Hawaiin life.

3.95/5.0
The location, the company and the property is very well presented, off grid, with all amenities. Plenty of space, hot water and fresh fruit off the trees. If you want a country experience, fab views over the ocean, a lovely sunset, and a place to relax this is it.
The driveway was a bit challenging for low sung rentals.

Sleeping in a hammock.

Nice kitchen and shower facilities. Ray was a great host.
Cabana floor got very wet from rain. The last quarter mile of road was not paved and extremely rough.

Warm welcome and beautiful house in paradise!

4.40/5.0
The host Ray was such a sweetheart! He made sure we had everything we needed and made us feel sooo at home away from home! He even woke up early to make us coffee on our departure morning! We also loved the nice breakfast which was included at a coffee place in town and the free parking. The place (ecolodge)was very very lean and tidy and nicely located in a beautiful surrounding of rainforest, we loved it and would always come back again.
It was a bit hard to find the place and the dirt road to it was a bit uneasy, so you basically need a car to access it, but well worth it to be in paradise away from the city noise!

Gut ausgestattetes Zimmer mit Aussicht.

4.60/5.0
Keine Beanstandungen.

Ray was such a wonderful host. Very accommodating and helpful. Loved sleeping with the sounds of the rainforest. Comfy bed and clean facilities. Awesome view of the ocean. Loved the fact that this place is totally off the grid! Inspired me for what I can do at home. Especially if you are arriving after nightfall, just keep going, you are almost there!

Beautiful spot but great only for hammock lovers

3.35/5.0
Very friendly host. Beautiful setting.
It was kind of noisy, the tent made noises in the wind and the dog barked a few times. And sleeping in a hammock did not make it easier. It was kind of cold too. I hardly slept at all. I did not notice that I would have to sleep in a hammock when I booked the room. I did it via the app and did not read through the description of the hotel. It would be nice to have that clear in the room details/title.

We loved our stay here!

5.00/5.0
We loved the Hamakua House! Ray, our host, was wonderful. He was extremely friendly and accommodating. The house is in the most picturesque location you can imagine -- the only sound at night is the sound of the birds and the bugs outside. Very calming. Our room had a beautiful view of the road leading to the house and the ocean. Everything is green and blue here. Our bed was very comfortable and the facilities were great.
The only downside of this location was the noise. In order for the house to have such good ventilation, one of the walls in our room was missing, which meant that we could hear everything going on in the common areas downstairs both late at night and early in the morning. So, if you stay in the room with the king-sized bed, BRING EAR PLUGS! Don't let this criticism deter you from staying here -- just be forewarned. We still loved our stay!

bad location

The price is cheap
The location is on abandoned dirt road far away from any store or buildings. If you don't have a car don't go to that place

Ein paradisisch schöner Ort.

Ein paradisisch schöner Ort.
50 Dollar um in einem Zelt in einer Hängemate zu schlafen ist Teuer. Aber auf Hawai ist alles Teuer.
