A welcoming and pleasant hotel.

3.35/5.0
Friendly staff, the onsen was lovely, breakfast was included (English or Japanese food), toiletries were stocked in the bathrooms, location was handy to the snow and shops.
The drying room was small, the decor and general appearance was tired.

Overall pleasant, but not the typical Japanese service quality

3.55/5.0
The outdor-onsen has a nice view. The breakfast buffet was good, if you are into Japanese breakfast, that is.
Even though I spoke Japanese and the staff members clearly understood my requests (such as reservations for dinner or looking for a private towel which the cleaning staff had taken), I often had to come and ask several times in order to receive the requested service. I felt this was due to bad organization and lack of training of the staff.

Couldn't even stay one night there

1.65/5.0
We had to circle this building 3 times before deciding is was not abandoned. The exterior is a jaundiced yellow with black stains everywhere and broken and boarded up windows. The interior is even more depressing, reminiscent of a crappy dorm building. It smells of bad food and wet carpet. We walked into our room hoping to be surprised but it was as we expected; tired, beat-up and unimpressive. The views were nice though. We ate the price of the first two nights and stayed elsewhere.

Dated, but charming hotel

Size of room (it's more like a suite). Distict Japanese traditional decor.
Smoking in the hotel! Stay our of East Wing, it's stinky.
